"Uco Valley home swap 4 bedroom villa in the Mendoza wine region at the foot of the Andes Mountains"
Every good wine has its day of popularity. In recent years, the hottest wine has been Malbec from Argentina. Some of the mightiest Malbecs come from the Uco Valley, about 50 miles south of the city of Mendoza. Your home exchange villa is nestled in this valley of vineyards.
The Uco Valley sits at the foot of the the snow-covered Andes Mountains. The rich alluvial soil of the valley grows choice varietals of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot that result in wines with intense aromas and rich flavors. Over 100 wineries – corporate or family-owned -- call this peaceful valley home.
Touring the “bodegas” and tasting fabulous wine is a must for any visitor to the region. You can take an organized bus tour that takes in two-six bodegas in a day. Or take the hardier alternative -- a day-long guided tour of wineries by bicycle, with stops at olive oil farms and other interesting places. And, of course, independent tours in your rental car can take you on your personalized way at your own pace.
Touring by car gives you an opportunity to stop and browse in picturesque little towns or to pair your wine tour with an outdoor adventure, such as zip-lining or parasailing. For serious outdoor action, mountain trekking or hiking and white-water rafting are popular. From mid-June to October, skiing in this area is outstanding.
Mendoza, about an hour’s drive north, is well worth exploring for cultural and historical attractions, shopping, and entertainment. Most of the action takes place on the city’s five squares, or plazas, each with its own unique appeal.
The central square, Plaza Independencia, is green and grassy and perfect for leisurely strolling. Over 150 artisans display their wares here at a daily handicrafts market. Two of Mendoza’s best theaters are on the plaza’s surrounding streets. A pedestrian street, Avenida Sarmiento, runs east and west from Plaza Independencia and is lined with sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Historical attractions and architecture highlight Mendoza’s other plazas, and their bordering streets offer eclectic shopping and more restaurants and nightspots.
Whether exploring the wineries, the mountains, or the city of Mendoza, your villa in the valley is a perfect spot to recoup and relax. It is cozy, nicely appointed, and offers all the comforts of home, including internet and HD television.
