    Description

    A 200 year old stone home exchange cottage in a peaceful location in Morbihan. It is near the Nantes-Brest waterway – a lovely river with towpaths for walking or cycling.
    The ground floor has a spacious lounge/diner plus separate well-equipped kitchen. The room is lovely, spacious and comfortably furnished, with a wood burner (Logs available at a 20 euro supplement), a library of books and games, English television, dvds, dvd player and an mini Hi-Fi with an iPod docking station. The room opens onto a deck with a barbecue and garden furniture.
    The first floor has 2 comfortable double bedrooms, 1 plus a futon, and a bathroom with bath, overhead shower, basin and toilet.

    Outside is a lawned garden to the rear and a gravelled parking area to the front. Swim or windsurf at Ploermel 8km away, on the large lake with sandy beach. The fortified town of Josselin is close by, or visit the Gulf of Morbihan 50 minutes away, and the beaches of southern Brittany less than 1 hours drive.

    Activities
    From the cottage

    • Take a pleasant stroll along the canal path into Josselin, an attractive medieval town with steep narrow ancient streets, medieval half-timbered buildings and a well-preserved medieval castle overlooking the Oust valley.
    • Climb the Basilica’s bell tower for panoramic views of Josselin and the countryside beyond
    • An ideal cycling or hiking base. The Nantes-Brest canal route is ideal for cycling, with well-marked circular ‘velo’/cycle routes. The Tour de Guegon takes place nearby. ‘Randonnees’/walking routes are also well marked. Leaflets are available in the cottage.

    Nearby

    • Take a short drive to the Lac au Duc (Dukes Lake), one of the largest lakes in Brittany, and have a lazy swim in the lake from the sandy beach. For the more energetic, the water sports centre hires dinghies, catamarans, optimists, windsurfing, mini windsurf, canoeing, rowing, water skiing etc.
    •  Walk the ‘Hortensia’ trail, unique in Brittany. The walk runs along the edge of the lake, where about 2,000 hydrangeas of 220 different species (the flower of Brittany) are planted. They flower between May and October
    • With a car, visit scenic medieval towns, all within easy travelling distance.
    • La Gacilly hosts the biggest outdoor photography festival in France (June to September), and for arts and crafts of all types.
    • In Rochefort-en Terre, voted one of France’s most beautiful villages, you can see artists and craftsmen at work.
    • For children: L’Univers du Poete Ferrailleur, Parc de Branfere, L’Aquarium de Vannes, Jardin aux Papillons, Parc la Foret Adrenaline, Camors Adventure Forest. Leaflets at the cottage.
    • Breton foods : Sample local cider, Chouchen (similar to mead), galettes and crepes, moules mariniere, salt meadow lamb, Far Breton (flan), and Kouign-amann (‘buttercake’)
    • Further afield, beaches and boat trips along the coast and in the Gulf of Morbihan.

    The cottage is in a hamlet near the medieval town of Josselin, about 2miles walk along the Nantes-Brest canal. The Chateau overlooks the river Oust. Josselin has pavement cafés, restaurants, and bars, and a popular Saturday market. There are two large supermarkets within driving distance at near Josselin and in Ploermel.  Josselin in the Morbihan, Brittany region of France not far from from Vannes.
