Completed in 2013, Casa Jungua, “House of Jungle and Water’ (casajungua.com) is a beautiful, brand new sustainably built, off the grid, Balinese-Style Farm house located in Cabo Matapalo on the Osa Peninsula. She is built purely from greenheart woods and has an extremely low impact on the environment. Exclusively solar powered yet featuring refrigerator/freezer and other amenities one would expect from a “wired” home.
Casa Jungua borders the largest protected wildlife preserve in Central America (Corcovado National Park), overlooks Golfo Dulce “The Sweet Gulf” and the Pacific Ocean as well as Pan Dulce and Backwash Bay – world famous surfing destinations. Casa Jungua sleeps up to 6 in two large bedrooms and has a large living room / dining room, kitchen “monkey porch” and full-length front porch providing breathtaking views of the sea. The front yard features a plunge pool and the signature element of the property – a pavilion that is suspended over the jungle and looks down on Lower Matapalo and the gulf. From this vantage point our guests enjoy watching the sunrise, a wide variety of wildlife, surfers, fishing boats, waves and humpback whales while dining, enjoying a morning coffee or happy hour after a long day of hiking, fishing or simple lounging.
Set atop the exclusive and expansive bluff (shared by only 4 properties) of Cabo Matapalo enjoying incredible vistas and cooling breezes.

By road from San Jose take the Inter-American ( Pan Am ) Highway ( Ruta 2 ) to San Isidro de General ( 2 – 3.5 hrs ). Continue through Buenos Aires ( 1 – 1.5 Hrs ) to Palmar Norte ( 1 – 1.5 hrs ). Thirty-three kilometers past Palmar Norte take a right turn at Chacarita. At Chacarita you will see a service station by the name of “Corcovado”. The right turn to Puerto Jimenez is directly after the service station (mileage to Puerto Jimenez (77 kilometers). On this paved road you will drive 44 km to Rincon where the pavement ends, 33 more kms will take you through La Palma and eventually on to Puerto Jimenez ( 1 – 2 hrs) ). After loading up on "provisions" in Puerto Jimenez, you continue on the road toward Carate for another 18 kilometers. Our gated, private road will be on your left aprox. 1.5 kilometers past the "collectivo" or bus shelter. Or...you can fly from the international airport in San Jose via Sansa airlines or Nature Air directly to the town of Puerto Jimenez and take a taxi out to the house from there.
The beach for surfing, Launching kayaks, swimming, snorkleing, etc. is only a short walk down and there are many incredible trails for communing with the vast array of wildlife....however, if you would like to explore more or take day trips into town for shopping, dining, etc. then a car is recomended. Must be a sturdy 4X4 vehicle.
