The apartment is situated in a secure complex and one of the questions many people ask is: How safe is it to visit South Africa? Well, as in most countries around the world you need to take care and not act too much like a tourist and take the usual precautions of not carrying around large amounts of money, or walking on your own at night. The locals are friendly and as its a small town, its very different to Johannesburg! So be aware, but mainly enjoy this wonderful land in all its diversity.
Shops and restaurants are within a few minutes walk, with lots of lovely craft and specialist African shops in the vicinity. There are 5 star dining experiences, as well as relaxed and casual dining, lunches and breakfasts available. Interesting farmers markets where locally produced products such as jams, cakes, flowers, organic vegetables are held every Saturday. There is also a local theatre which hosts productions showcasing some of the local talent. Polo matches are held in the summer season.

According to many South Africans, Plettenberg Bay is the jewel of the Garden Route. Originally christened "Bahia Formosa" (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, it has developed over time into a beautiful, modern town that combines buzzing activity with a peaceful environment, lazy beach days and action activities like diving, hiking and bungee jumping (if you absolutely must!).
Plettenberg Bay (known locally as 'Plett') is characterised by sweeping, unspoilt golden beaches, a dramatic rocky peninsula called Robberg Peninsula which is famous for its Cape Fur Seal population lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea.
With its exceptional climate, and beautiful view sites over the Indian Ocean, Plettenberg Bay is perfect for exploring, watching or just lazing.
It is also known for its many golf courses, Goose Valley, (5 mins drive) Pezula (30 mins drive) Simola (45 Mins drive) and the world renowned Fancourt (1 hours drive). There are a few game lodges which offer excellent diversity of wild animals, the most famous being Shamwari and the Addo Elephant Park which an easy overnight stay if you want to venture further afield.
Knysna, another popular town in this area is 25 minutes drive away and offers interesting shops, restaurants and tourist activities such as lagoon cuises and yacht cruises. It makes a lovely day trip and we recommend Ile de Pain Restaurant for fantastic bread and meals and the very best coffee!
