Architects: Shim-Sutcliffe.
The Tower House is in the centre of a charming Victorian/Edwardian city, overlooking Lake Victoria and the Stratford parklands for the best view in town.
INTRODUCTION:
Tadao Ando was the inspiration for the architecture. The aesthetic is modernist through and through; and materials are poured-in-place concrete, steel, wood (mainly cedar and Douglas fir), cement board, and glass. Completion was in 2001.
The beautifully-appointed living room has a wood-burning fireplace; throughout the house are the finest examples of modernist furniture and lighting. In the master bedroom, you get the first light of the day; and the view from the living room offers the perfect sunsets.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are two bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom, and there is a powder room on the main level. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed, which sleeps two. There is a large, semi-industrial kitchen; a dining room that seats up to nine, and a living room that comfortably seats eight.
At the back of the house there is a water-lily pond, and a small, romantic garden. The house is across the street from an extensive park system.
There is parking for two cars. Daily housekeeping is provided. Room service is available from Rundles when the restaurant is open for business. (40th Season of Rundles: May 27 to September 24, 2016.) Picnic baskets are available for guests, with advance notice.
The house does not have an elevator, and therefore is not suitable for anyone who cannot climb stairs.
*Prime Time offer or 7+ night stay, we will provide complimentary airport chauffeur service to and from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The above offer is for a maximum of 2 guests. Please ask for more details.
The Tower House was designed by the respected young Canadian architectural firm Shim-Sutcliffe, and was chosen as a "Record House" by Architectural Record in April 2002. (www.shim-sutcliffe.com/info.pdf)

"Life moves at a stately pace in the farm town of 30,000, less than two hours from Toronto. Stay a couple of days to rent pedal boats, feed swans, and stroll through verdant gardens, stopping to picnic by the water, and saunter through galleries and antique stores. By night, explore Stratford's culinary and theatrical offerings. This Stratford, like its British namesake, is famed for its theater festival. Running May through October, the festival keeps things delightfully dramatic in this sleepy Ontario town." [Out Traveler Magazine: 2009.]

What a delight!
We are two retired gentlemen who spent our lives in creative endeavors. We love the unexpected, but we also want excellence. And that's what we found in this extraordinary home in Stratford.
A masterpiece of architectural design, outfitted with the finest of furnishings and all the little things that one never finds in a temporary home. In a word, wow!
Oh, yes...and a host whose graciousness had no bounds.
Mr. Lester Barnett and Mr. Leland Ball (06 Oct 2016)
Wonderful accommodation, fabulous restaurant and perfect location. If you can imagine having a spacious and well-appointed house (amazing kitchen, great entertainment area, 2 fantastic bedrooms) next door to a restaurant with a superb menu and excellent wine list all in a perfect setting of Stratford to enjoy theatre, local shops and a very enjoyable walk along the river. Plenty of little touches that make this a very special ‘getaway’. A real treat!
