Property #0600: United Kingdom, England - Large Country Home in the Chiltern Hills
Cherrywood is a large, elegant country home in the Chiltern Hills, situated in 1½ acres in an old cherry orchard. The area is designated as of outstanding natural beauty.
4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 3 shower rooms, sleeps 6
40 - 55 credits
7 day minimum stay

Cherrywood is a large, elegant country home in the Chiltern Hills, situated in 1½ acres in an old cherry orchard. The area is designated as of outstanding natural beauty. A hard tennis court has an adjacent wooden pavilion. A large new Spa/Hot tub has been installed on a roof balcony adjacent to the master bathroom. A further 400 square foot balcony is furnished for outdoor dining and relaxing.

Although a large centrally heated house with six bedrooms, we prefer our exchange partners to be limited to a maximum of four adults. We would be looking for exchanges with equally well appointed houses. A Mercedes car is available.

Our garden is quite extensive, with a water features, and is tended by a fantastic gardener who often provides masses of fresh vegetables from his own garden and is an excellent handyman and general factotum!  One daughter lives a few miles away and can answer any queries you might have. Cultural attractions abound locally and there are excellent golf courses nearby.  Domestic help once per week is given by a lady who, by working as a nanny and a housekeeper to each of our two daughters, is a friend of the family. The large modern kitchen has all the appliances you might need.  Satellite TV, (with surround sound in the sitting room), masses of books and CDs are all there for you.

We do not have pets and would prefer any belonging to our exchange friends to be looked after by others during our stay in your home. Our ‘pets’ are the wonderful bird and animal life in the garden, (although the muntjac deer, grey squirrels and rabbits can be tiresome and do their best to eat our roses!).  We are a strictly ‘no smoking’ house as Sheila has a violent asthmatic  reaction to whatever is in cigarette smoke so, sadly, we are only able to exchange with non-smoking partners. Otherwise we are extremely healthy!!!!  We run our own, (too thriving), Consultancy in Educational Psychology, Sheila as the Psychologist and Tony, a former Management Consultant and Business School Professor, as the Business Manager.

In the lovely Chiltern Hills, Great Missenden is a charming village in the south east of England, in the County of Buckinghamshire, some 30 miles west of London.  It has an excellent train service to London.

High Wycombe, our nearest town, has excellent shops. Amersham, some five miles away, is at the end of the London underground network on the Metropolitan line. The Old Town has a Tudor/Elizabethan High Street which attracts many visitors without overcrowding.  Excellent restaurants and country ‘gastro’-pubs, both formal and casual, abound.

Flagship supermarkets of high calibre are within five miles; good local shops and smaller supermarkets are conveniently situated close by.

Cleaning once per week and gardeners services are included.

(The gardener provides vegetables, the occasional pheasant etc. These are seasonal and discretionary and can't be guaranteed!).

Extra cleaning £12-£15 per hour.

We are close to the Thames Valley, Windsor, Henley, Oxford, Cotswolds; motorway and major road networks to airports and the rest of the UK are close by: London is 45 minutes by frequent fast train. Four London airports are within an hour’s drive.  Stratford and Shakespeare country is 1½ hours distant. South coast resorts are two hours or so away - Devon is a little further, (North Wales, Cornwall and the Lake District a lot more - but well within an easy day’s drive).

A car is essential and we would provide a Mercedes car with only about 50000 miles on the clock.

Car necessary: yes; Car useful: yes.
